Craig Lang launches Iowa Ag Secretary bid

(Brooklyn, Iowa)  A former Iowa Farm Bureau President has officially announced he's running to be Iowa's next Agriculture Secretary.  

Craig Lang farms near Brooklyn, Iowa and is a past-president of the Iowa Board of Regents.  Lang says his campaign will focus on soil health, water quality, and economic development.  He says he knows of several others who plan to announce their intentions to run for the office.  He WHO Radio's Big Show today (Thursday) he hopes there's an active Republican primary and says he's confident he'll win it, and advance onto the general election.

Lang says he'd like to see Iowa's cattle industry double, and he'd like to see five million acres of cover crop within five years, to improve soil health and to create more grazing opportunities for livestock.   He says Iowa farmers must be willing to farm differently to improve soil and water quality.

Lang told Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds earlier this year, he intended to run when current Ag Secretary Bill Northey heads to his new job in the USDA.
