The National Weather Service says the Des Moines airport picked up 0.1 inches of snow at the midnight observation, which means the city came close but did not break a record for latest measurable snowfall in a year.
Mindy Behrends of the National Weather Service in Des Moines says parts of northwest Iowa recorded a little more snow than the trace amounts in central Iowa. She says Sioux City received 1-2 inches of snow.
She says the snow is light and dry, so if it's windy it could blow a little bit, but winds are expected to be just 10-to-20 mph during the daytime hours, so she's not expecting blowing snow to be a major travel concern. Temperatures will take a dive tomorrow (Saturday) with highs in the 20s, and highs in the teens in the north, single digits are possible by Tuesday.
She says there's a chance for another dusting of snow in Iowa this weekend, a greater chance of snow mid-to-late next week.
