As a former State Senator, I was (and am) always astonished on how policymakers ignore the laws of economics. There's a reason they are called, "laws" - they always apply.
But politicians are masters of spin...so if they want to tell you that the law of economics don't apply...when then they want you to believe they don't apply.
Example: the city of Seattle has enacted a HEFTY soda tax.
But the city of Seattle wants to reassure residents that THEY are not intended to pay the tax.
So...are soda price controls next? Stay tuned!
Here's the problem for modern liberals - the voter still votes based on checkbook issues. And the policies that many liberal favor raise prices and slow the economy. And they've yet to convince consumers to accept this.
How the "old school" liberal must long for the days of John F Kennedy - when pro-business policies grew government revenues and supported programs that liberals wanted to see enacted. Now, we ALL just pay the price.
