The US Supreme Court is deciding whether to hear a case involving a Florida treehouse. Why would they need to intervene in what seems to be a trivial matter?
The devil is in the details.
A Florida couple asks their city if they need a permit to build a treehouse - the city says no.
They build the tree house.
A neighbor objects anonymously.
The city inspects and says, my bad, you did need a permit. Now, if the court does not intervene, they will have to take it down.
And, in the ultimate irony, they will have to get a permit to take it down.
There a big private property issues here but one nagging question I have is: if the city gives you bad advice, can they later penalize you for following their bad advice?
