(WASHINGTON D.C) Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds became the first woman to give a Condition of the State Address this week.
Reynolds is friends with Senator Joni Ernst, who is Iowa's first elected woman to Congress.
"I was able to watch the majority of her (Reynold's) speech, and I am so proud of our governor. She is such a compassionate woman and I think that came through in her speech," said Ernst, who says she sent Reynolds a congratulatory text message. "I was really excited about her state of the state address, I thought she did a beautiful job, and I congratulate her on a wonderful opening of session this year."
Senator Ernst says she watched Governor Reynolds speech in Washington on a live-stream, and says also called Reynolds yesterday as well.
Ernst says she's interested in several topics Governor Reynolds included in the speech, including improving mental health care and water qualify, and she hopes there are ways the federal and state governments can work together on those issues.
Senator Ernst made the comments today (Thursday) during a conference call with Iowa reporters. .
