Disaster aid not reason for U.S. shutdown says Iowa's Grassley

U.S. Senator Charles Grassley says disaster aid not reason for shut down

WASHINGTON D.C. -  The U.S. government runs out of money this Friday at midnight unless a new budget can be approved. One hanging point is money for disaster aid, but shouldn't be, says Senator Chuck Grassley of Iowa.

"When FEMA runs out of money we're going to appropriate more money."  Grassley says. "So, whether we appropriate one dollar by Friday, or tens-of-billions of dollars by Friday, there's no way we can know exactly how much money's going to be needed for natural disasters."

Health programs, DACA, and spending caps are also hanging points.

Money to run the U.S. government will run out at midnight Friday, January 19, unless a new budget can be approved.

Grassley comments came in his weekly teleconference with the news media, Tuesday.
