URBANDALE, IOWA - People in Urbandale are being asked for money to build two new schools and renovate others.
The school district is putting a $59-million dollar bond referendum to the voters February 6. The district says its six elementary schools are outdated and maintenance costs are going up.
If the bond is approved, property taxes would go up about $33 dollars a year.
Most parents are concerned about where their children will attend class during construction. Urbandale School Board President Tannya Ruden tells WHO TV Channel 13: "We're working right now to develop those plans within the community, and figure out where we will house kids."
"Kids can learn and do fantastic things regardless of their environment." Ruden says. "So I have whole faith that things will continue as normal during the time they're displaced from school."
