Corrections officials say the Iowa State Penitentiary in Fort Madison is on "restricted movement" after a guard was attacked Thursday afternoon.
Officials say the correctional officer was searching an inmate's cell when the inmate started hitting the officer with his fists. With the help of another officer who was nearby, the prisoner was subdued.
The state corrections department says the prisoner was taken to University Hospitals in Iowa City for further treatment. The officer who was attacked was treated for scratches and bruises and returned to his post.
The incident's still under investigation.
