A debate over whether or not automated traffic cameras should be allowed in Iowa is heading toward the Iowa House.
The House Local Government Committee Tuesday approved HSB512. Effective July 1, 2018, the bill would void all city and county ordinances authorizing the use of "automated or remote systems to enforce traffic laws."
But Iowans who get a ticket from the traffic cameras before July 1st have to follow existing law to appeal them.
The Senate Judiciary Committee has a similar bill that cleared subcommittee last week.
There's no word from legislative leaders when-or if-the bill(s) will be debated by the full Iowa House or Senate.
