DOJ Threatens To Subpeona Sanctuary Cities

The Justice Department is threatening to subpoena 23 jurisdictions if they don’t turn over information about their "sanctuary" policies.

As a result, several Democratic mayors plan to boycott a scheduled working session with the President at the White House.

The Des Moines city council must be pleased not to be dealing with this headache.  When pressured to adopt "sanctuary" status in 2017 (officially tell the local police NOT to cooperate with federal immigration officials), the city choose to simply pass a "welcoming" resolution -  infuriating activists who demanded a sanctuary resolution.

But the council knows that these sanctuary policies aren't popular with a huge swath of Americans.  Sure, it's easy for mayors of heavily Democratic cities to posture (hello, New York), but a government that refuses to enforce law?  Not broadly popular.

I will again reiterate a position that I take on my radio show:  even you are for open borders or you are not.  Trying to evade advocating for open borders by demanding that the enforcement of existing law be hinder is intellectually dishonest.
