I am old enough to remember when Jethro Tull beat Metallica in the "Best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal" category at The Grammys.
The award show was rightfully mocked as hopelessly unhip.
Well...it's NOT hopeless...but there is still some work to be done.
Avenged Sevenfold is nominated this year for a Grammy in the "Best Rock Song" category for "The Stage." Also nominated in the "Best Rock Song" category are Metallica's "Atlas, Rise!" (my favorite in this category), K.Flay's "Blood In The Cut", Nothing More's "Go To War" and Foo Fighters' "Run".
But Avenged Sevenfold will NOT be attending the ceremony.
Asked by a fan on Twitter how they feel about being nominated for a Grammy, the members of AVENGED SEVENFOLD responded: "Honored. Unfortunately, they have taken 'Best Rock Song' off the telecast this year so we won't be attending. Maybe next time."
The group has repeatedly, in interviews, protested that the hard rock/heavy metal category isn't televised. And you can understand the lack of respect that groups in the genre feel.
While I understand the attention that pop, rap, and country recieve, it does shun a LOT of music fans to ignore recognizing rock.
