(DES MOINES, Iowa) A local UPS driver is being credited with saving a man and his child from a house fire on Thursday afternoon. Des Moines Fire lieutenant Rick Thomas tells WHO Radio News UPS driver Jeremy Brandt was on his route when he spotted smoke coming from 1821 Allison Drive.
Officials say Brandt pounded on the door of the home, waking up a man who was sleeping inside along with a young child.
Brandt spoke with our news partner, Channel 13, WHO-TV, explaining he spotted smoke and pulled up to help, and even held a baby while the homeowner tracked down the family dog. Everyone got out safely.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
