Deadly Monday on Iowa roads

Monday was a deadly day for traffic crashes in Iowa.   The Story County Sheriff's Office says one person was killed in a massive pile-up on I-35.  Authorities say some of those injured, have critical injuries.

Five other people were killed in three separate crashes in eastern Iowa.

A crash in northeast Iowa Monday morning at 8:30 claimed the lives of a 17-year old driver, and a 13-year old passenger.

The Iowa State Patrol says a car, driven by 17-year old Avery Arneson of Decorah lost control on a Winnishiek County road and crossed the center line, sliding sideways.   

An oncoming pick-up hit the passenger side of the car.   Avery Arneson and 13-year Aden Arneson were killed.    Three more Arneson teens, Alexander, James, and Jack, were injured.

Fifteen-year-old Gage Dahlberg, the driver of the pick-up was injured.

Two men were killed in a Linn County wreck on I-380, just north of the Highway 30 exit around 11:22 a.m. Monday. 

Cedar Rapids Police say a 2007 Mercury Montego left the road hit a pillar support of a bridge overpass.   Police say there were three men in the vehicle, two were dead at the scene.  The third occupant was taken to Unity Point-St Luke's Hospital with serious injuries.

One person was killed, and two others injured in a wreck on I-80 in Cedar County around 1:40 p.m. Monday.   The Iowa State Patrol says the driver of a Pontiac G6 that hit a Toyota Corolla, stopped and got out of the vehicle.   The driver of a Ford Escape lost control and hit the Pontiac, pushing the car into the driver.
