(DES MOINES, Iowa) State Senator Dan Zumbach has announced his intentions to run for Agriculture Secretary of Iowa.
Zumbach, a Delaware County farmer, chairs the Senate Ag Committee. He joins three other Republicans who have officially announced they're running (Craig Lang, Ray Gasser, and Chad Ingles). Current Deputy Ag Secrtary Mike Naig is considering running as well.
One Democrat, Tim Gannon, has announced as well.
Zumbach told The Big Show on Newsradio 1040 WHO his farming experience, and his six years in the Iowa Senate, on the Ag Committee has given him a well-rounded background that would enable him to represent the state well as Agriculture Secretary.
He says if elected, he'd like to continue Secretary Bill Northey's initiatives. Zumbach says farmers need to make sure government does a good job of marketing their products.
Current Agriculture Secretary Bill Northey has been nominated for a post in the U S Department of Agriculture, and has been waiting for confirmation. Once confirmed, Governor Kim Reynolds would appoint a replacement to finish out Northey's term.
