Rush hour spin-outs and crashes make for slow Tuesday commute

DES MOINES, Iowa - Snow plow crews were out all night clearing several inches of snow off roads in the Des Moines metro area, but despite their hard work there was an icy layer of compacted work in many areas.

At one point Tuesday morning, traffic was diverted off a stretch of I-235 after a crash blocked the highway.   Police dispatch reported ten active crashes at one time near I-235 and Easton.  There was report that one car went over a barrier into the oncoming lanes of I-80.

More snow is likely Tuesday afternoon, and Jim Brown will be in the WHO Radio Traffic Center for the ride home from work and school.
