Johnston, Iowa traveling mom offered plea deal

(DES MOINES, Iowa)  A Johnston mother, accused of leaving her four kids home alone while she went to Germany last fall, has been offered a plea-deal. Eric Macke is charged with four counts of child endangerment and one count of making a firearm available to a person under 21.

The Polk County Attorney's Office is offering to drop the firearm charge, if Macke pleads guilty to child endangerment.   Macke would then qualify for a deferred judgement.   Her hearing is to be February 23rd.

Officials say Macke left for Germany September 20th and didn’t plan to return until October 1st. Investigators say she left two 12-year-olds, a seven-year-old, and a six-year-old at home without supervision.
