Iowa has had 97 flu-related deaths this season

(DES MOINES, Iowa)   State Health Officials say 97-people have died from the flu so far this season.    State Medical Director Dr. Patricia Quinlisk tells WHO Radio News this particular strain is hitting older Iowans very hard, but it's also showing up in a lot of schools.

The Iowa Department of Public Health says 48-schools have reported absentee rates of 10-percent or greater.

Dr. Quinlisk says the state has seen record number of outbreaks, hospitalizations and deaths and the season not quite half over yet.  She encourages those who have not received a flu shot to get one.
