Knoxville, Iowa woman dies after house fire

(KNOXVILLE, Iowa)  A Knoxville woman died after an early Sunday morning house fire.   Crews were called to a home in the 200 block of Terrace Lane around 12:20 a.m. because of a report of a possible structure fire. 

They arrived and found two people sitting on the front porch of a home that was filled with smoke.

The Knoxville Police Department says the people were moved to a police car, one of them became unresponsive.  CPR was performed, and the 70-year-old woman was taken to Knoxville Hospital, where she later died.

The woman's name has not been released.

In addition to Knoxville Fire-Rescue, units from Knoxville Township Fire, Pella City Fire, and Pella Community Ambulance were called for assistance.  The Marion County Attorney’s Office, Iowa State Fire Marshall’s Office, Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office, Marion County Medical Examiner’s Office, Marion County Sheriff’s Office, and Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation were all contacted to assist in the investigation.  The Red Cross was called to assist the people living in the home.
