Here's Why Cinemark Theaters Says It Is Banning Large Bags

Java at Cinemark Theater

The Cinemark Theater chain says it is banning large bags in its theaters.

After Thursday, bags that are larger than 12 inches by 6 inches will not be allowed.  The "official" reason is to enhance safety and security.

I went back and forth on this.  A lot of comments on social media indicate that people were thinking like me initially -  this was a ploy to keep people from sneaking food and drinks in the theater.  After all, that's how the theater makes its money.

But after giving it some thought, this makes sense to me in the aftermath of the Florida school shooting.

After all, we often talk about "soft targets" on the show -  areas where crowds gather with little security. Like a school.  Or a theater.

Cinemark also says ANY bag could be subject to search.
