Des Moines hospitals see hike in ice-related injuries

(DES MOINES, Iowa)   Emergency responders, hospitals and clinics have been very busy lately in central Iowa, responding to falls, due to the icy conditions.

Des Moines area hospitals and clinics are seeing a big increase in Emergency Room patients, injured after slipping and falling on ice.

Unity-Point-Des Moines Spokesperson Amy Varcoe tells WHO Radio news their emergency rooms have had at least 70 such cases over the past couple of days.

Mercy Medical Center Spokesperson Greg Lagan tells WHO Radio News their downtown ER has had 20-fall cases today (Thursday) alone.   He says the ER at Mercy West Lakes had just about that many today.
