Girl arrested for threatening Iowa middle school

(COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa)   Police in Council Bluffs  have arrested a 12-year-old girl, accused of making terroristic threats on social media against Kirn Middle School.

Investigators say a parent called the school, after seeing disturbing messages on Snapchat, making reference to guns and killing people at the school.  The school resource officer worked with detectives to identify the student who is suspected of posting the threatening messages.

Police said the girl did not have access to any weapons. She was booked into the Southwest Iowa Juvenile Detention Center Thursday on one count of threat of terrorism.

Police will not be releasing the name of the juvenile.

They say this incident was an example of how the “See Something, Say Something” campaign works.

Police encourage adults to have conversations with their kids stressing that these types of posts will lead to very serious consequences. Law enforcement say they will treat every threat as being potentially credible, until proven otherwise.
