Messy Saturday in Iowa with rain, snow, ice possible

DES MOINES, Iowa - Iowa is likely to get another blast of snow and ice Saturday, turning into rain in some areas.

WHO TV Channel 13 Meteorologist Jeriann Ritter says it is looking dry and warmer today.

Unfortunately another winter weather system will move through Iowa on Saturday bringing chances for heavy snow to parts of the state, including Carroll, Fort Dodge, and Mason City.

South and east of this area will mainly experience rain with a brief chance for freezing rain before temperatures climb above freezing during the late morning and early afternoon on Saturday.

Isolated thunderstorms are possible Saturday evening, and if this happens isolated rain amounts up to 1″ will be possible.  Winds will increase Saturday night and blowing snow could be a problem in areas that get new snow.

Sunday promises to be calm again.
