(DES MOINES, Iowa) A 19-year old from West Des Moines has been charged in a Des Moines homicide that happened in May of 2017.
Jahmar Saheim Mustin is charged with First Degree Murder, in the death of 23-year-old Choice Elliston.
Mustin is also charged with Criminal Gang Participation. May 9th last year, Elliston arrived at Broadlawns Medical Center with a gunshot wound, he was transferred to Iowa Methodist and died the next day.
Police say about the same time, a shooting was reported near 30th and Hickman, in which a bystander's car was hit by a stray bullet. Police say the shooting was part of a "rolling" gun battle between two rival gangs, and that Mustin was sitting next to Elliston in a vehicle involved in the battle. Police say it appears Mustin fired a gun, striking Elliston in the head.
