Des Moines charities to share $250-K from Solheim Cup

(DES MOINES, Iowa)   Nine local charities are going to share 250-thousand dollars in grants from last summer's Solheim Cup Golf Tourney.

The charities serve women or children in central Iowa.   They include:

Iowa Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), ISISERETTES Drill & Drum Corp, DMGCC Educational Foundation, Boys and Girls Club of Central Iowa, Children and Family Urban Movement (CFUM), Children's Cancer Connection, Iowa Homeless Youth Centers, Youth Emergency Services & Shelter (YESS), and The First Tee of Central Iowa.

Gregg Carlson was the Club President at Des Moines Golf and Country Club during the tourney.   He says the event set attendance records for the biennial women's golf tourney, with more than 120-thousand spectators attending.

"It was noted that one of the most successful LPGA event ever, it was tremendous and the golf was tremendous, spectators were really treated to something special," said Carlson.  "It was a real honor, and a great way to showcase central Iowa."
