President Trump heads to California to talk immigration, sanctuary cities, and the border wall.
It's safe to say that politicians in the state won't welcome him with open arms.
But that doesn't bother the President. He and members of his administration haven't been holding back in their rhetoric regarding California and immigration policy:
In his public remarks on Tuesday, Trump is expected to renew his concern that Los Angeles, San Francisco and other major cities are providing protection for illegal immigrants who have committed crimes.
Tom Homan, acting director of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, said in a conference call with reporters on Monday night that Brown, U.S. Democratic Senator Dianne Feinstein and U.S. Democratic Representative Nancy Pelosi were inflaming the situation by accusing federal agents of preying on immigrants.
“We don’t arrest law-abiding people,” Homan said.“We arrest people who are in the country illegally and violate federal law.”
You'll recall that Attorney General Jeff Sessions was equally unrelenting in recent remarks when he said a warning by the mayor of Oakland about an impending raid helped more than 800 people evade arrest.
I've pointed out on my radio show that these visits aren't attempts to win California in 2020. They are meant to get the media focused on unpopular immigration policies enacted by liberals - and spotlight immigration policies favored by Trump and Republicans which are popular with the public.
Trump and the GOP want this message to sear into the brains of voters as they head to mid-term elections this fall.
