Iowa House shuns traffic camera ban

Instead of a bill the Iowa Senate passed this year which would ban automated traffic cameras, the Iowa House voted to approve a bill the Senate passed last year which would keep them, and add new regulations.

An attempt by some Republicans to change the bill into one banning the red light and speeding cameras turned into one of the most bi-partisan and heated debates of the year.  Democrats and Republicans weren't united on the bill...however, Iowa's larger communities that had cameras were largely opposed the attempt to ban cameras, while rural members of the Iowa House supported it.

The ban was defeated, and the bill which adds new regulations to the cameras, was changed and sent back to the Iowa Senate.
