Iowa State Sen. Dan Zumbach of Ryan, Iowa, in Delaware County, today submitted his nomination papers to become a candidate for Iowa Secretary of Agriculture. Zumbach’s candidacy places him in a Republican primary for an open seat following the resignation of Bill Northey.
“Over the past 40 years, I’ve raised everything from corn, soybeans, cattle, hogs and dairy cows. In good years and tough times, I’ve remained committed to the most rewarding profession on the planet - a profession that feeds the world,” said Zumbach. “Former Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey leaves big shoes to fill, but I believe I bring a unique perspective to the job, which includes that of a full-time farmer, a lawmaker who understand the legislative process, and an Iowan who strives to leave this state in a better place from which I found it. I look forward to sharing my vision across the state and earning Iowans’ vote.”
Nomination papers to place Zumbach on the ballot included signatures from counties from all corners of the state, including counties that are along our state’s northern, southern, eastern and western borders.
Zumbach was elected to the Iowa Senate in 2012, and won reelection in 2016. He is the chairman of the Senate Agriculture Committee, sits on the Senate Appropriations, Commerce and Transportation committees, and is a member for the Watershed Panning Advisory Council.
Senator Zumbach will appear on today's Big Show at 12:35, listen in here:
