A week after Democrats put his nomination on hold as the Director of the Iowa Department of Human Services, the Iowa Senate Wednesday confirmed Jerry Foxhoven as the head of the agency.
Senate Democratic Leader Janet Petersen of Des Moines last week put a hold on Foxhoven's confirmation vote, expressing frustration at what she said was the lack of information from the DHS and the Reynolds administration about changes in the state's Medicaid program.
Wednesday, Petersen said, "I don't know who would want to run that department," due to the budget cuts it has had to suffer in addition to the Medicaid woes. Petersen added, "I know Mr. Foxhoven is a great person," but said she hopes he's able to turn around the agency.
Foxhoven's confirmation required a two-thirds vote of the Iowa Senate.
