Iowa snowstorm dumps 15+ inches north, 9+ inches east

DES MOINES, Iowa - Iowans to the north and east of Des Moines are digging out after heavy snow fell Saturday. 

Snow totals in the north ranged from 12 to 16 inches, including the I-35 corridor from about Highway 20 north through Mason City and to the Minnesota border.  A Winter Storm Warning for northern Iowa ends at 4:00 p.m. Saturday.

In eastern Iowa I-80 was at times shut down by crashes and white out conditions, mostly from the Iowa City area east to the Quad Cities.  A Winter Storm Warning in that region continues until 10:00 p.m. Saturday.

In the Des Moines area, a mix of snow and rain left from one to a few inches of snow.
