Five Iowa nursing assistants accused of sex with patients

Five Iowa CNAs charged with having sex with patients

FAYETTE, Iowa - After two certified nursing assistants were arrested earlier this month, accused of having sex with patients at a residential care center in northeast Iowa, three more CNAs have been arrested and charged.

Investigators say 44-year-old Carlyn Wiedrich of Sumner, 24-year-old Shelby Sebring of Hawkeye, and 32-year-old Jamie Pagel of Sumner were employed at the Prairie View Residential Care Center in Fayette at the time.

Patients with mental illness, intellectual disability, or medical conditions are cared for at Prairie View, and police say the patients were there by court order.

KCRG-TV Channel 9 reports that, if convicted, each woman faces up to five years in prison and having their names added to the sex offender registry.

26-year-old Megan Marie Penney of Clermont and 23-year-old Paige Lynn Johanningmeier of Elgin were arrested following an investigation that began when two patients walked away from the facility.

The Fayette County Sheriff's Office says four days later, investigators learned the two had been seen with two CNAs licensed by the state.

Investigators say Penney and Johanningmeier had developed a relationship with the two patients at the facility. They say the the relationships turned sexual once the patients had walked away from the facility.

Penney and Johanningmeier face up to five years in prison and 10 years on the sex offender registry if convicted.
