(DES MOINES, Iowa) The IowaWorks annual Career Fair is this Wednesday afternoon at the F-F-A Enrichment Center at Des Moines Area Community College in Ankeny. Organizers say they expect nearly 90-employers to attend.
Vonnie Stewart-Kai of Iowa Workforce Development says the companies are hiring, so attendees should be prepared for a potential interview, and bring along their resume. Veterans are asked to attend the event between 1-1:30 p.m Wednesday. Non-military job-seekers are invited to attend the event between 1:30 and 4 p.m.
Edgar Ortiz-Hernandez works with the Home Base Iowa program, which helps veterans who are transitioning from active military service and the private sector. He tells WHO Radio News employers like the skills acquired by veterans, such as discipline and being reliable.
There are smaller, monthly career fairs, hosted by Iowa Workforce Development at different locations. Ortiz-Hernandez says each month there are between 15-20 employers that would typically attend the monthly fairs.
Ortiz-Hernandez says at the even this Wednesday there will be a wide variety of employers, everything from manufacturing and construction to careers in the finance and insurance industry.
