Faulty water heater, caused Iowa family's death in Mexico

Mexican officials have determined what caused the deaths of a family from Creston, Iowa.

Autopsies performed on the Sharp family showed that propane was the culprit in the family's death. Officials say propane leaked out of a faulty water heater in their rented condo in Tulum, Mexico.

Investigator Christopher Martinez with the attorney general's office for the state of Quintana Roo says the water heater had rusted in the humid climate, which lead to the deadly leak.

The bodies of Kevin, Amy, Sterling and Adrianna Sharp were found on March 23rd after loved ones reported them missing. Family hadn't heard from the family in days and they never arrived back home when expected, which prompted the search for the Sharps.
