Art Bell has died

Radio host Art Bell is dead at the age of 72.  Bell founded and hosted "Coast to Coast AM," which looked into conspiracy theories and paranormal events.  

Bell was born in 1945 at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina.  

During his time in the military, he operated a pirate radio station at Amarillo Air Force Base in Texas.  

According to his website, he set a Guinness World Record for the longest solo broadcast at 116 hours and 15 minutes as a DJ in Okinawa, Japan.  

"Coast to Coast AM" was a nationally syndicated show picked up by hundreds of radio stations.  

He retired from the nightly show in 2002 and was inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame in 2008.
