Seven Younkers stores, are on an Iowa Workforce Development list, of companies expecting to close this year. Younkers' parent company, Bon Ton, is going through bankruptcy, and two liquidation firms are bidding for the retailer.
The Iowa stores on the list include those at Merle Hay Mall and Jordan Creek Mall locally. Other stores listed include those in Dubuque, Cedar Rapids, Coralville, Mason City, and Sioux City.
Employers are required to give 60 days notice of plant closings and mass layoffs.
The stores on the list have more than 600 employees.
According to the Iowa Workforce Development website, the stores are closing in early June.
