Traffic Camera Ruling

Increase Use Of CCTV For Traffic Fines Raises ?300 Million

The Iowa Supreme Court has made a decision on traffic cameras.

The Court ruled in favor of Des Moines, Cedar Rapids and Muscatine, appealing a district court ruling from 2017 which essentially banned speed cameras.

A state judge ruled in 2017 the DOT had the authority to order cities to remove their cameras from highways and interstates.

That ruling came after the DOT told cities to remove and relocate cameras in 2015.

Friday, the state's highest court determined the DOT did not have that right.
