Iowa baby hit in head by softball may have brain damage

Seven week old Iowa baby McKenna Hovenga

WAVERLY, Iowa - The seven week old northeastern Iowa baby hit in the head with a softball two weeks ago has traumatic brain injury, according to new posts by McKenna Hovenga's parents.

How extensive the brain damage is, and how much the baby might recover is still not known.

Baby McKenna was airlifted to Mayo Clinic where she is being treated for brain bleeds, seizures,  and a skull fracture.

The mother, Kassy Hovenga says she was holding the baby, while sitting on the bleachers watching a men's softball game when  a ball flew over the fence and hit her and her baby.

The baby's father was playing in the game.

A Go Fund Me page today shows $60-thousand dollars is raised towards a $75-thousand dollar goal to pay for the baby's medical expenses.
