Iowa gas up 55-cents over last year, $3 average likely by summer

Memorial Day gas prices highest since 2014

DES MOINES, Iowa - We're paying 55-cents a gallon more for gas in Iowa right now than we did last year at the same time.

The Iowa average price of $2.81 is still a dime less than the national average.

37-million people will hit the road for the Memorial Day weekend, and AAA Iowa says drivers will pay the highest price for gas over the holiday since 2014.

It's expected to go up more.  AAA says the national average price is expected to hit $3 a gallon this summer.

WHO TV Channel 13 reports that an annual survey conducted by GasBuddy.com predicts summer travel will drop off as a result of the high price of gas. While 58% of respondents said they still plan to go on vacation, that’s 24% lower than in 2017.
