Free Drop Billy is officially running in the Belmont Stakes on June 9th. This is big horse racing news as the three-year-old colt is owned by Iowa's Albaugh Family Stable.
Billy didn't do so hot in his run at the Kentucky Derby in early May, finishing in 16th out of 20 horses. He also didn't fare well in a race with most of his highly touted peers as two-year-olds last fall, finishing 9th.
Billy's connections aren't sure why those two results were so poor, but the fact that the horse has finished in the money every other start in his career to this point obviously makes them feel as though he could make some noise in the Belmont.
It was unknown if Free Drop Billy would run in the mile-and-a-half long race that wraps up the Triple Crown season, but his pedigree suggests this is the race he was bred for. Trainer Dale Romans hinted that he would push for the Belmont and that was confirmed Tuesday morning.
Here's to hoping our Iowa representative has a better showing at Belmont Park than he did at the Derby!
