Mexican caught in Iowa illegally sentenced to federal prison

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - A Mexican citizen in Iowa illegally after two prior deportations has been sentenced to federal prison. 

Savino Ortiz-Camarillo, Jr. admitted he was deported in June 2008 and January 2009 for using false employment documents.  

He was found back in the United States, and back in Iowa by immigration officers after an arrest in Fayette County on traffic violations on November 28, 2017. He also has several other prior convictions.

Ortiz-Camarillo will also serve a two-year term of supervised release after the eight month prison term.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Daniel Tvedt and investigated by the Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Enforcement and Removal Operations.

Ortiz-Camarillo will remain in US Marshal's custody until he is transferred to a federal prison.
