UPDATE: Names released of children pulled from water at Iowa State Parks

UPDATE June 20, 2018: The name of the two-year-old girl who was found in the water at Big Creek State Park has been released to the public.  The Polk County Sheriff's Department says two-year-old Celeste Sandoval-Ramos of Perry was with her family at the beach Saturday night.  


DES MOINES, Iowa - Two children died after each was pulled from water in separate incidents at Iowa state parks last weekend.

Jasper County Sheriff’s Office confirms 9-year-old Landyn Short of Tama Iowa was found underwater Sunday at Rock Creek State Park 40 minutes after he was noticed missing.

He was flown to a Des Moines hospital and died Tuesday.

A 2-year-old pulled from the water at Big Creek State Park Saturday night also died Tuesday.  The Polk County Sheriff’s Office says emergency crews were dispatched to the park around 8:45 Saturday night on a report of a possible drowning.  When deputies arrived Polk City Rescue was performing life-saving measures on a two-year-old girl who had been pulled from the water at the beach.

She died Tuesday morning.  The child's name has not been released.
