Two Cedar Rapids residents killed in Benton County crash

BENTON COUNTY, Iowa-  Two people were killed, three others injured in an early Monday morning crash on Highway 30 in Benton County.

The Iowa State Patrol says the driver of a Hyundai Elantra, headed west around 5 a.m. went into the eastbound lane and collided with a semi near Van Horne.

Two passengers in the car,  21-year-old Jeremie Mvemba and 39-year-old Michou Mayola were killed. 

Three people were injured and transported to the hospital,  including the driver, 18-year-old Guetty Otshumbe, and two others, 32-year-old Jeannette Elese, and 45-year-old Jean-Claude Shako.    All of the occupants in the car were from Cedar Rapids.

The driver of the semi, 71-year-old Paul Jarrett of Waukee was injured and taken to St Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids.
