Iowans endure hot, humid July 4th

URBANDALE, Iowa-   Heat and humidity were a big part of today's July 4th festivities throughout Iowa. Crowds lined parade routes to celebrate the holiday, those fortunate enough to stake out a spot in the shade had plenty of company from those seeking to beat the heat.   A heat advisory was in effect for central Iowa, temperatures were in the upper 90s, with heat indexes topping 100.

Many residents of the Des Moines area are still cleaning up from last weekend's flash flooding.  The Polk County Emergency Management Office says more than 600-people have either called 2-1-1 or have gone to the Disaster Recovery Center to report damage.   That center was closed for the July 4th holiday, but will be open Thursday, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
