I hope you heard my guest, Tom Speaks, on Monday morning talk about the upcoming battle over President Trump's Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh. I asked him if Democrats - who don't have the votes to stop the nominee, are fighting to fire up the base or actually trying to dissuade Senators from voting for Kavanaugh. He said, "both."
I actually disagree. I think Democratic Senators in the states which overwhelmingly voted for Trump will vote for Kavanaugh. This is really about firing up the liberal base for the fall.
I offer as proof:
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi is on a mission promised to “avenge” former President Obama in a strange fundraising email that was sent out Monday afternoon.
In the email, Pelosi outlines her plan to get back at Senate Republicans for their refusal to vote on Obama's 2016 Supreme Court nominee, Merrick Garland.
Pelosi claimed that the Republicans plan on spending $1.4M in ad buys on behalf of Trump’s nominee. “This will eviscerate our chance to make Republicans pay for the Supreme Court seat they STOLE from President Obama.” she wrote. “But I’m determined to avenge President Obama if it’s the last thing I do."
I am, of course, familiar with the strong wording of fundraising letters meant to get supporters to open up their wallets. BUT this letter is what Pelosi KNOWS that the base expects: the left is enraged over Senate Republicans refusal to move on the Garland nomination.
