Iowans gather to remember Governor Ray

DES MOINES, Iowa-  Iowans are gathering at the Iowa Capitol to remember former Governor Robert D. Ray, who died Sunday at the age of 89.

A motorcade began shortly before 4 p.m. traveling west on Grand Avenue, past Terrace Hill, then Roosevelt High School, and Drake University, before traveling on Robert D. Ray Drive in front of City Hall. City employees gathered on the sidewalk outside the building as the motorcade arrived.  The motorcade ended at the Iowa Capitol.

WHO Radio's Gary Barrett is reporting live from the events at the Capitol this afternoon on AM 1040 WHO.

A wreath laying will take place at 5 p.m.  Iowans will pass by the casket after that, until 8:30 p.m.  The funeral is tomorrow (Friday) afternoon at First Christian Church in Des Moines at 1 p.m.
