Judge Susan Christensen named to Iowa Supreme Court

Governor Kim Reynolds today appointed an Iowa District Court judge to fill the vacancy on the Iowa Supreme Court.

56 year old Susan Christensen of Harlan was appointed to the bench November 4, 2015.

She practiced family law in Harlan and also served as Assistant County Attorney in Shelby County from 1991 to 2007, Harrison County from 1996 to 2007 and Crawford County in 2007.

She'll fill the vacancy when Justice Bruce Zager retires from the court next month.

Christensen was chosen over two other finalists, West Des Moines attorney Kelli Combs and Kellyann Lekar, the chief district court judge in Iowa’s First Judicial District.

It's the first time a woman has been on the Iowa Supreme Court since Chief Justice Marsha Ternus, who was rejected by voters in 2010.
