DES MOINES, Iowa- The Blank Park Zoo new has a new addition, a baby harbor seal pup. The Zoo says it was 30 pounds at birth, and both mom (Meru) and the pup are healthy and doing well.
Zoo keepers will soon introduce the baby to his outdoor habitat.
It's the first harbor seal pup born at the Blank Park Zoo since 1992.
The Zoo's asking for a donation, in exchange for a chance to name the pup, now thru August 29th. A $50 donation will give you one chance to name the seal, a $100 donation will give you three chances.
Animal keepers are requesting the names submitted be limited to one or two syllables. Zoo officials will then release the top suggestions for a public vote with a final selection announced by September 7.
