BROOKLYN, Iowa - The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation says they've filed first degree murder charges in the death of 20 year old Mollie Tibbetts.
24-year-old Cristhian Rivera, who lives in rural Poweshiek county, according to the DCI, led police to Mollie's body in a cornfield Tuesday morning. Special Agent Rick Rahn of the DCI says Rivera was from Mexico.
Officials say that the evening when Mollie went missing, Rivera went missing, he ran alongside "or behind her" and says Tibbetts pulled out her cell phone and told him to get away from her. Rivera says he "blacked out", waking up when she was in a corn field.
Rick Rahn, of the Iowa DCI, says they haven't had positive identification of the body they found yet, they are certain that it was Mollie Tibbetts. An autopsy will be conducted tomorrow.
Rivera's bond was set at a million dollars.
