DES MOINES, Iowa- A former Woodward-Granger School district employee is accused of paying herself more than a quarter of a million dollars, above her salary. State auditors say it exceeded $270,000 over five years.
The audit found former business manager Melissa Lantz wrote herself more than 100-checks, ranging from $350 to $6,500. Lantz resigned in August of 2017. Copies of the audit have been filed with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, the Dallas County Attorney's Office, and the Attorney General's Office.
Investigators with the State Auditor's Office also found nearly $12,000 in health and dental insurance premiums paid to former district employees. The audit also found Lantz claimed overtime, without documentation. Auditors say a lack of records made it tough to see if all collections were properly deposited, and time sheets were not available prior to 2013.
Lantz was charged with First Degree Theft, August 28th in Dallas County, and bonded out of jail.
