Coca-Cola Co. is in talks with cannabis producer to make beverages infused with marijuana.

On Monday morning, Canadian news service BNN Bloomberg reported that Coke is talking with cannabis producer Aurora Cannabis about developing health-focused beverages that will ease inflammation, pain and cramping.

“Along with many others in the beverage industry, we are closely watching the growth of non-psychoactive CBD as an ingredient in functional wellness beverages around the world,” Coca-Cola said in a statement, referring to cannabidiol, a constituent of cannabis.

Would you drink cannabis-infused coke?

I am definitely an advocate for medical marijuana -  and an advocate for legalizing weed in general -  but I worry that the legitimate health benefits being experienced by those who suffer seizures or chronic pain are being exploited by companies touting potential health benefits that are yet to be proven.

To paraphrase Thomas Sowell, "Corporations are for corporations just as and politicians are for politicians."  Companies are glad to charge you more money for non-GMO and/or organic products if you are willing to BELIEVE they make you healthier.  Of course, Coke and other companies will get on the CBD bandwagon if people ascribe all sorts of health benefits to cannabidiol.

Whether those benefits actually exist outside of what a doctor prescribes for you...I don't know yet.
