man sentenced after robbing same wells fargo three times

The Justice Department announced Friday that a man accused of robbing an Anchorage Wells Fargo three times has been sentenced to federal prison for his role in the robberies.

Christopher Hatting, 38, was sentenced to serve four years in federal prison by U.S. District Judge Sharon L. Gleason for each bank robbery, to be served concurrently. Hatting will also be subject to five years of supervised release, the Justice Department said.

Court documents say Hatting and two other suspects, Derrick Moore, 39, and Bethany McKeel, 31, drove together to a Wells Fargo branch in Anchorage on Debarr Road. McKeel would park and wait in a nearby cul-de-sac while Moore and Hatting went into the bank. The two went to several teller stations, threatening tellers and customers with a realistic looking air-pistol.

The trio got away with around $15,316 during the April 3rd robbery.

McKeel and Moore were arrested later that month, with Hatting ultimately arrested May 15 while hiding in a secluded property in Eagle River.

During the course of the investigation, authorities learned Hatting had also been responsible for robbing the same Wells Fargo location twice before - once on July 7, 2017, and again on April 16, 2018.

Before the robbery on July 7, Hatting reportedly used makeup and put cotton balls in his cheeks in an attempt to disguise himself. He entered the bank with a note demanding money and gave it to the teller. He was able to leave the bank with around $3,000, authorities said.

Hatting also reappeared at the same Wells Fargo on April 16, 2018, entering the same branch while wearing a mask and holding what appeared to be a pistol. That time he was able to get away with around $4,101 before getting away with another co-conspirator.

Hatting pleaded guilty to three counts of bank robbery and will have to serve four years in federal prison, followed by five years of supervised release.
